Cheval Young Writers Award - 2011


First:


Jemma King

Jemma was studying for her PhD at Aberystwyth University in English Literature.  She had already had some of her poetry published and  was working towards publishing a collection of her own. Jemma had a part-time job at a local tourist attraction.

Her winning entry is the poem entitled “Amelia Earhart”


Second:


Glyn Edwards

Glyn was an English teacher from North Wales.  He had also been teaching English in China. He was spending nearly all his spare time writing poetry and short stories.

His winning entry is the poem entitled

“The Girl With The Ponytail”


Third:


Whitney Pugh

Whitney was brought up in California. She settled in Wales following her studies in Swansea University, and lived in the Rhondda Valley. She was, at the time, working on her first novel.

Her winning entry is the story entitled “My Plaice”
